Hello friends,
Apologies for the radio silence. I’ve been living under a rock, desperately trying to finish a piece that’s been hanging over my head for years. But I finished it—at least its first iteration. It’s a folk opera in one act called The Right to Be Forgotten, and explores the life and work of the intermittently reclusive composer Nathaniel Levitan. The piece features my dear friends and colleagues Nathalie Joachim, Alex Sopp, and Holcombe Waller, who will perform alongside the Oregon Symphony (and me) under the baton of David Danzmayr. You can hear it in person in Salem (11/4) & Portland (11/5-7), or via livestream on November 7. (You can also hear it in Cincinnati early next year, and in Los Angeles before too long…)
But before all that happens, I’ve got a few shows coming up this month to tell you about. On Tuesday, I’ll be down in San Luis Obispo (10/4) for a solo gig, then up to Seattle for a show w/ string quartet (10/7), before heading to NYC, where I’ll do my solo quasi-theater piece, Magnificent Bird, at Rockwood Music Hall (10/12). Finally, I’ll be in St. Louis (10/14), to sing songs with the incredible St. Louis Symphony.
Next month I’ll be in London (11/20) for the first time since 2019 at the beautiful Southbank Centre, and then onto Copenhagen (11/23-24) for a pair of shows with the Danish String Quartet.
That’s all for now, folks. In closing, here is a picture of my desk in the final throes of editing The Right to Be Forgotten. And now, I shall go clean my studio.
Sending love and peace,
Gabriel
